We’re going to do a Europe trip later this year, and will be staying with some good friends in Munich for part of the time. I’m about to have some new (to me) car money and have been casually browsing Craigslist. I had a drunken idea - what if I bought something old in Germany and imported it? I currently have a w123 and E30, so that is right up my alley. Haven’t figured out the details but now I’m trying to figure out what I would want. Old diesel 5 series wagon with cloth seats? THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS.
Also does anyone know how you spell craigslist in German?

Mobile.de seems like a good place to start.

eBay Kleinanzeigen, AutoScout24 and mobile.de. The latter two have English options.
Do you need help with checking out cars? I’m in Munich too.

Craigslist isn’t really a thing here. Try mobile.de, autoscout24 or Ebay Kleinanzeigen. Maybe even classifieds in local papers.

KRAIGSLISCHST!
You’re velcome.
And bad idea? If it’s a brand that’s sold here, they usually keep parts for them for a long time, especially a brand like Mercedes.

How about a slightly broken Opel Senator?

Ha maybe. I told my wife I was going to do this and she rolled her eyes. Not sure how much time I can take out of the vacation to go look

Oh man, I’ve got your answer friend! What YOU need, is a Trabant or Wartburg :P

Kriegsliste would be more inappropriately appropriate.

Contact the seller with “I am an American visiting Germany and if you could deposit my check.....”

My German is limited to bad Hogan’s Heroes impressions and ordering good beer.

So wait ... W123 you have is sedan? A wagon? I’d go W123 wagon and turn 2 cars into one.

How much does an old Unimog run?

Oh yeah, not worried about parts/repairs. I am handy enough and am OK putting some money into. Nothing too stupid like a bmw v12, but if I have to ship parts from germany, thats fine

w123 is a sedan. 240d. auto. I only paid $500 so I’m ok with it, but definitely least desirable option...
